Volunteering for CHS Bands

We love our Volunteers - thank you for your support!

The Centaurus Band Program relies very heavily on volunteer participation. Maintaining a high caliber band program requires a great deal of fundraising and volunteer support from our families. Our band director, his staff, and our talented hard-working kids need the help of every family.

That's why we need every family to commit to volunteering for one shift or job at 4 performances (including competitions and parades) and one football game throughout the season. Volunteering at a competition usually means taking a slot at prelims or finals, not both. Though we love when people want to do double-duty and volunteer for both in one day!

We also require all families to volunteer at our two big fundraisers, Marchathon (in August) and Regionals (in October).

We can't do what we do without every family participating, props aren't going to push themselves! Plus, volunteering is also incredibly fun! You'll get to see what your kid(s) are up to, meet other parents, and contribute to the success of our organization.

Watch this short video to hear some CHS Band Parents talk about volunteering and what makes Centaurus Bands so special.

How You Can Help

There are many different ways to get involved throughout the season. We encourage you to try lots of different jobs and see which you like the best!

Opportunities include:

  • Pushing equipment onto the field at football games or competitions
  • Hemming or washing uniforms at home
  • Driving kids around
  • Feeding the kids at competitions or fundraising events
  • Coordinating a fundraiser

...and a lot more!

We ask all families to be involved in our biggest fundraisers: Marchathon (August) and CBA Regionals (October). These are huge events and we can't run them without all hands on deck!

How to Sign Up

Volunteer opportunities are primarily announced by email and at the Parent Meetings. Opportunities exist for competition days, fundraisers, and to assist the various Board Chairs with subcommittees. Parents receive email links to the sign-up sheets (usually via the weekly newsletter).

BVSD Volunteer Application Process

All volunteers must undergo one of two background check options required by BVSD.

Additionally, all volunteers must complete this Volunteer Agreement, Waiver and Release. This form must be completed every year.

You can choose to either undergo a third-party CBI fingerprint check or complete the Raptor background check. Choose one of these options, you do not need to do both.

CBI Fingerprint Check

This option is REQUIRED for any volunteer who may be working with students out of direct line of site of a BVSD staff member. For the CHS Band, this typically includes driving kids during Marchathon, and can also include working with uniforms and other tasks.

However, we encourage all parents to complete this application process even if you don't think you'll need it. You never know when we might need you to perform a task that requires this clearance. Additionally, although this process is more expensive than the Raptor check, it is good for 5 years.

We typically have opportunities to be fingerprinted at a few events over the summer. We will send more information about signing up in future newsletters. You can also complete this process outside of one of these events.

Here's what to do:

  1. Fill out the Volunteer Application Submission Alert form.
  2. Register for a third party background check at Colorado Fingerprinting. You'll need to create an account and follow the prompts.
  3. The fee for this check is $56
  4. Summer is a great time to complete this process! And if you plan to drive kids around at Marchathon, we need this process completed by Aug. 8.

Raptor Background Check

The Raptor Background Check is another option for volunteers who won't be outside of line of sight of a BVSD staff member with students.

This background check costs $32 and must be completed every year you plan to volunteer.

Additional Form for Drivers

Anyone who plans to drive students at Marchathon or in another volunteer capacity must also complete the Transportation in Private Vehicles form from BVSD.
