Every marching band show tells a story and the color guard brings the story to life. Through dance, choreography, and equipment like flags, rifles, and sabres, the color guard adds movement, emotion, and visual impact to each performance. The band creates the sound and the guard transforms it into something audiences can both hear and see.
Color guard is a unique and expressive activity that blends dance, athleticism, and performance in a way that challenges both the body and mind. You’ll build strength, coordination, and confidence while learning exciting new skills in a supportive, team-focused environment.
Beyond the performances, color guard is about connections. Teammates quickly become a second family — encouraging each other through practices, celebrating growth, and creating unforgettable memories along the way. The friendships built here don’t end when the season does.
At Centaurus, color guard is your chance to try something new, express yourself, and be part of a team that brings energy, emotion, and meaning to every performance.

Program Information
- Color guard is part of the marching band, and participates in all marching band camps, performances, and competitions.
- During the summer, the color guard has rehearsals on most Tuesday and Thursday evenings. See the Band Calendar for more info (Look for "CG" events).
- After band camp, the guard practices on the same schedule as the marching band, with occasional extra practices communicated by guard leadership.
- Color guard fees
- Color guard members pay the same annual family contribution (AFC) as marching band members.
- The AFC for 2026 - 2027 has not yet been finalized, but will likely be $525 for the first student and a reduced rate for each additional sibling in band (usually around half the first student rate).
- As part of the band, color guard members participate in general fundraisers, including Marchathon. Color guard members can also participate in family fundraisers to offset their program fees.
- Can my child participate in color guard and play an instrument in one of the concert bands or orchestra?
- YES! We love when color guard members also play an instrument in our other band programs. See Mr. V for more information about how to make this happen.
